Why Write Articles Such As This One When Promoting Your Site?
When you are promoting either your own website, or someone else's, after a quality web page links are the most important as far as good search engine visibility is concerned. There are a couple of problems with simply bombarding the Internet with links to your homepage though. For example some deploy tactics to delay a sites placement for popular keywords, referred to as sandbox filters and other such endearing terms.
But if you're anxious to get traffic to your site, you won't want to wait too long to start seeing results, and that's where link placement comes in. You can go on many forums, enter your link in your signature line, and post replies merrily through the net and hope for the best. This will certainly get your link around, and in popular threads it could be seen often. However, your replies will have to be relevant to the thread topic rather than your site, anything else will be viewed as spam and potentially deleted. The other thing is that your link won't necessarily fair well with the search engines either, since the text around them won't be related they won't carry the same weight and many engines won't include them at all. So in terms of traffic to your site, you're really relying on someone stumbeling on it that finds it interesting, and that's certainly not the best form of marketing.
Articles however are different. YOU choose the topic, the words used can be carefully sculptured around your keywords, and with greater space for article bodies, they are more likely to be listed by search engines. In the resource box, you place some details about yourself, and of course the link to your site which is now attached to keywords you want to target. Not only that but people who read the article may decide to include it on their own site, so once you've written a good content rich document, your link can spread through the Internet on various sites with any possible PageRank.
I would say though that if you can't write a good article by yourself, get a friend or relative to help you, a poorly written article will be less effective and may not even be approved for publishing. There are many "tools" available that state that they will write articles for you based on your keywords, but these are likely poorer quality. Computer algorithms lack imagination and the creative styles that make your writing unique and interesting, it is unlikely that any such generated text will appeal to the audience you intend to attract.
If you are struggling to promote your site, don't give up! The best advice anyone can give you is to persevere. Start writing about your experiences in the process, your journal could be more interesting to others than you think!
